Itinerary in detail

Every Jacada trip is tailored to your personal preferences and interests. Below you’ll find a sample itinerary to inspire your own custom-designed journey.

Days 1–3

Two nights in Arusha

Spend two nights in arguably the safari capital of East Africa, Arusha, a bustling city in northern Tanzania and the main hub for those who are going to be embarking on a safari or Kilimanjaro climb.

You’ll spend your time here relaxing and preparing for your climb by meeting with your guides, attending a briefing and having a final check of your kit. Famous for coffee plantations there’s plenty of beautiful walks in the countryside, and there should be time to visit the city and the Museum of Natural History, or even a short safari in the Ngorongoro Crater.

Get ready for your Kilimanjaro climb

Kilimanjaro trek briefing

Your climb up Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, is on the horizon. First however, you’ll meet your guide who will take you through a pre-climb briefing to get you familiar with all the kit and equipment, safety information and give you an idea of what to expect along the route before you summit. You’ll learn all about the route you’ll be taking and how long you’ll be walking each day. You’ll also learn more about the sleeping, eating and drinking arrangements.

Days 3–10

Seven nights on Mount Kilimanjaro

Your Kilimanjaro climb will be a true wilderness experience. During the first and second day you will steadily climb the lower foothills of the mountain through rainforests and moorland landscapes. On the third day you’ll start to enter what is known as the alpine zone where the air is dry and the views are spectacular. By “walking high” and “sleeping low” throughout your trek and going at a slow and steady pace with your experienced mountain guides, you’ll successfully acclimatise before your summit bid.

The final push for the summit begins at midnight and you’ll reach the crater rim as the sun rises. You will be standing on the Roof of Africa in the dawn light realising a dream. After your summit you’ll descend the mountain with one more night in the lower foothills before collecting your certificate the following morning from the National Parks Authority.

Days 10–11

An overnight in Arusha

After your Kilimanjaro climb you will return to your luxury accommodation in Arusha for plenty of well earned rest and recuperation. Enjoy the peace and quiet of the coffee farm, sipping a warm brew and relax on the calm verandahs as birds dip and sway on the breeze.

There will of course be a jubilant feeling as you settle in by a log fire to enjoy a delicious meal and glass of wine as you reflect on your incredible achievement.

Days 11–15

Four days exploring the North Serengeti

Spend your days exploring the northern Serengeti on safari tracking the great array of game and wildlife that this vast area offers. If you’re there at the right time for the great migration (depending on the season), this is the region where the herds are at their most concentrated because the northern Serengeti forms the border with the famous Maasai Mara of Kenya, and it’s where (if you’re lucky) you’ll see the infamous river crossings.

It’s also an area of untamed natural beauty, of rolling hills, rivers, forests and open plains. We can suggest the best camp for you, based on your preferences and what you’re looking to get out of your experience here.

Floating high

Stay grounded

Hot air balloon over the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

Hot air balloon safari

As an optional extra, you can enjoy a hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti. Rising with the sun you’ll take off and float, sometimes at treetop height, sometimes lower, offering a unique perspective and great photographic opportunities of the wildlife below. As you soar higher you’ll appreciate the enormity of the Serengeti.

Game drive safaris

You’ll have the assistance of expert guides who will bring you on thrilling wildlife activities including walking safaris, off-road experiences and game drives. Witness the huge herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle – as well as the predators that follow them – as you explore the diverse and spectacular landscape of this magnificent ecosystem.
