Dotted throughout the village of Prince Albert, these traditional Karoo cottages are packed with character and, being part of the African Relish Cookery school, the food is excellent too.

There are just four small cottages available at African Relish, all of which are 1 bedroom bar the larger ‘Akkedis Cottage’, which features a second bedroom with either a king-sized bed or two singles, making it the best option for families. The accommodation here is simple and contemporary, although there are rustic details everywhere you look. Whether it’s the reclaimed-wood table in the kitchen area, the log fireplace to cosy up beside, or the exposed original rafters above your head, there’s always something to remind you of the country setting.

The cookery school itself hosts a broad range of culinary courses, from pastry making and bread baking with local chefs, to in-depth lessons on traditional Karoo dishes. You can also try your hand at more international dishes on the Italian and Tapas courses, although quirky Karoo twists are thrown in to great effect wherever possible. Fruit and olives are handpicked from the on-site garden for wonderful freshness.
