Three wonderfully restored 19th century mansions sit on the outskirts of Ibo Island’s historical main settlement, a charming town that has been nominated for World Heritage Status, set amongst lush gardens and overlooking a bay where dhows sail on each high tide.
All fourteen rooms are all simply yet elegantly designed, authentic to Ibo’s history and original architecture with features such as elegant pillars, meter thick coral and lime walls, lofty tall ceilings and solid teak beams, along with splashes of modernity such as air conditioning. There is a choice of sea facing, garden facing and historical rooms, as well as the private Paradiso Villa.
Dive, swim, snorkel and kayak in the clear waters around the island, or wander around the mysterious ruins amongst forts and ancient trade buildings of the old town with a guide. Probably the most compelling attraction in the Quirimbas, Ibo’s 200-year-old ghost town and 16th century forts make for a fascinating journey to an era long forgotten. Here you can interact with the amazingly friendly local people and observe their unique island culture and heritage and a way of life that has not changed for hundreds of years. The unhurried pace of Island life will also suit those wishing to simply relax and unwind with stunning private sand bank beach.
