La Maison Gallieni

Occupying the bottom two floors of the Monacan consulate, a fabulous orange-brick 19^th century residence once used to house the first bank in Madagascar in the historic heart of Tana, La Maison Gallieni is our favourite hotel in the capital.

There are just four large bedrooms, each a sumptuous blend of mid-century and colonial design with enormous beds and (quite possibly) the best internet connection in the city.

A pool and tropical garden can be found outside. Up the spiral staircase, a large modernist lounge and dining area where dinner and breakfast are served at a large communal table enjoy fabulous views out across the city. Service here is low key and friendly with a particularly homely feel making it a fabulous retreat from the bustle outside.
