Samburu Intrepids is a slightly more commercial option in Samburu with 30 modern and well furnished tents each with a private view over the Uaso Nyiro River in the heart of the Samburu Reserve.
The lodge is very comfortable and offers a more solid safari operation with a buzzing vibe of excited safari-goers. All the tents are spacious and raised on decks where you could choose to enjoy some quality time away from the other guests. Soft four-poster beds are extremely cosy and the interior mahogany decor does give you the impression of old colonial comfort. Candlelit dinners are also available in privacy on the decks overlooking the river, which does add an extra romantic element to a stay here.
This property is fantastic for families; children and teenagers can get their hands dirty and escape their parents for the afternoon by getting involved in the Adventurer’s Club or the Young Ranger’s Club. A dedicated team of highly experienced children’s guides take the children off to learn a variety of bush skills, get involved in ‘wild edutainment’ activities like studying bugs, and tribal excursions.
When you aren’t out experiencing the game in the area, the main boma is spacious enough to accommodate everyone very comfortably. The thatched roof is surrounded by leafy trees which provides some needed shade in the afternoon heat but where better to relax than with views over the river? A swimming pool set behind the bar is great for a splash and every evening you can enjoy fascinating slideshows and documentaries. This is a lodge where getting involved is the order of the day.
