Travel back to the Africa that was made famous in the pages of literature with a stay at Karen Blixen Camp. Here it is easy to see why she fell in love with this spectacular area, a landscape that captured her heart and those of generations of readers.
The camp features 22 luxury canvas tents, each set on a wooden platform with a spacious verandah. Persian rugs, armchairs and reproductions of Karen Blixen’s own furniture give the tents plenty of character and outside showers with views to the sky are heated using solar panels, to avoid the use of firewood. From the moment you wake up to when you drift off to sleep, you will enjoy undisturbed views along the Mara River and along the Oloololo Escarpment.
The open plan ‘mess’ area, consisting of the restaurant and lounge, is built on a raised wooden deck and overlooks a resident hippo pod. At the end of a day’s game viewing, sit around the campfire and share your safari adventures under the star African sky.
Nestled amongst acacia and olive trees is the swimming pool and for the ultimate in relaxation, a wellness therapist offers relaxing massages using organic African oils.
