Kifaru House takes its name from the Swahili word for rhino, apt given its location on an escarpment in the middle of the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy which home to East Africa’s healthiest rhino population. Not only has the lodge been designed with the environment in mind, but there are also ongoing projects geared towards conservation.

Six spacious bedrooms in individual thatched bandas are complete with opulent four poster beds and generous en-suite bathrooms. Guests can convene in the homely main house and relax with a fully-stocked bar and two large fireplaces or enjoy sundowners and dinner under the stars on the large comfortably furnished terrace. There is also a heated swimming pool that affords breathtaking views across the surrounding plains, teeming with wildlife and reaching out to Mount Kenya.

As well as the usual activities such as game drives, walks and community visits, guests at Kifaru House are welcome to visit Lewa’s Joint Operations Centre to meet the tracker dog team that provides anti poaching support across all of Northern Kenya.

Positive Impact

Minimising environmental impact

Elewana Kifaru House has been built to have minimal environmental impact. Solar panels are used to generate electricity and heat water, wastewater is recycled to irrigate the landscape including a lovingly tended organic kitchen garden.  All profits and conservancy fees generated by the lodge are reinvested directly into conservation and community efforts.

Reducing plastic waste

Elewana is also proudly rolling out a scheme to significantly reduce plastic water bottle waste. Bush camps feature Elewana reusable stainless steel water bottles to replace plastic-bottled water.
