Bogotá is often people’s first taste of Colombia and while it is a useful springboard for exploring the rest of the country, it is also a great place in its own right. It’s big and it’s busy but it is packed with cool restaurants and brilliant galleries and museums.
The pretty La Candelaria district is filled with colourful buildings and is home to the historic Plaza de Bolívar where you’ll find the Palace of Justice and the Cathedral of Bogotá. Spend some time exploring the cafes and boutiques of Usaquén and get a taste of the tropics at the bustling Paloquemao market.
The museums and galleries in the capital are some of Colombia‘s finest – the Gold Museum, the National Museum and the Botero Museum are some of the most popular but the neighbourhoods of La Macarena and San Felipe are home to some amazing independent galleries where you can chat with artists over a cup of Colombian coffee.
