Cotopaxi
The central sierra of Ecuador is a beautifully scenic highlands area. The sobriquet, 'Avenue of the volacanoes' given by Alexander von Humboldt is well earned with many peaks dotting the area, the soaring heights capped with snow and circled by condors. The most famous (and largest) is Cotapaxi, a perfectly coneshaped peak and the highest active volcano in the world. Just a short drive from Quito this a wonderful place to relax and explore the fine surroundings.
