Salta

Of all Argentina, this is where to come for a real slice of the indigenous culture of the country in a truly breathtaking setting. Adobe villages and colonial towns nestle in the majestic, other worldly landscape of brightly coloured mountain ranges and winding rivers.

Salta city is the hub and capital of this northwest region and is more modern than much of the rest of the province. However, there are some beautiful works of architecture around the city and it's a great base to explore from and start your exploration of this off the beaten track corner of Argentina.

When to go

All year round, though January and February are the wetter months.
