The Serengeti is a vast area , of around 12,000 square miles, spread over a number of reserves and areas. It’s most famous residents, the herds of Wildebeest and Zebra that form the great migration, mean that depending on the time of year, you might want to be in a specific part of this great territory.
The Southern Serengeti is best for playing host to the Great Migration during the green season, December to May, where the herds visit these verdant plains to calve (and also bring with them abundant predators). This makes it a unique and amazing sight to see at this time with many of the mobile camps moving here during this part of the year. It’s an area characterised by vast short-grass plains.
