Sarapiquí is a small but beautiful region. It is an area frequented in particular by eco-tourists yet is also a regular if not unmissable stopover for visitors on their way from the Arenal or Poas volcanoes to the Caribbean coast and the Tortuguero.

Only 2 hours north-east of San Jose, Sarapiquí is also conveniently located on the northern borders of Costa Rica’s biggest national park, Braulio-Carrillo. As the largest it’s also the least travelled and populated with cloud and rain forests, five different life zones, 500 species of birds, 600 species of trees and 135 different kinds of mammal.

Sarapiquí is an area historically and still currently used for banana, palm, pineapple and coffee plantations, perfect for horse riding through and the Sarapiquí river provides some thrilling white water rafting.
