Very intimate, with only 6 tastefully decorated thatched rondavels, Mfangano Island Camp is a stunning retreat to enjoy following on from a full-on game experience in Kenya. Each thatched room has a private veranda with views over largest freshwater lake in Africa and have all been recently renovated to the highest of standards. The sun beds outside your room give you a fine opportunity to touch up any safari tan and simply enjoy the lapping waters of this stunning lake. The lawns go right to the water’s edge and the huge boulders that surround the camp are home to giant monitor lizards and cormorants keeping their eyes open for tasty Nile Perch.
If relaxing and making the most of your spacious room are not enough for you, the activities on offer are superb and give you the chance to explore the lake either through fishing (watch those Fish Eagles!), hiking around the lake with a guide, or getting wet with a few of the watersports available here. A small swimming pool is great for a midday dip if you don’t fancy the lake and excursions to some prehistoric cave paintings could also take you to worlds gone by. A truly special place to really relax.
